Make America Soar Again

I wonder if deep down inside, in his heart of hearts, Donald Trump feels like a failure? He ripped the Republican party to shreds from the inside. The party won’t be fixed for years to come, if ever. He severely tarnished our democratic process. There is no doubt the insurrection happened because of him.

Remember when he promised to bring down the trade deficit? It is higher than when he took office. In fact, every year of his presidency it has been higher than the year he started.

Remember when he promised to eliminate the federal debt? Its almost 7 trillion dollars higher than when he took office.

Remember when he promised to boost the wages of American workers? Adjusted for inflation, wages have been flat.

How about draining the swamp? We refilled the swamp with Ivanka, Kushner, Giuliani and all the other cronies.

Whatever became of his healthcare plan?

Do you think he exhibited the leadership America needed during this pandemic? Only if leadership means not taking simple science backed advice like wearing a mask. Do you think he could have worn a mask if only to set a good example for everyone else?

After all the birther attacks on Obama, on inauguration day, Barack and Michelle Obama were gracious and emotionally intelligent enough to welcome the Trump’s to the White House. They did so just like every other First Couple before them. What does it say about Donald Trump that he cant even perform this ceremonial norm.

In all my life, I have never been more anxious for America about the next 36 hours. The transfer of power cannot happen soon enough. American needs to heal. America needs to move on from this really painful 4 years.

However, America has a problem. 194 Republican’s voted Nay to Donald Trumps second impeachment. The Republican party is screwed if this is how they proceed. 194 Republicans voted to continue to enable Donald Trump. 194 Republicans voted for all the crazy people that stormed the Capitol.

My hope is that America heals itself holistically, the democratic process works, and slowly but surely, these people are scrutinized by their constituents and voted out of office. There is no place for QAnon conspiracy theories in government. There is no place for people to speak non-truth on the floor of congress in America. In these highest offices of the land science = truth, and what you say, what you tweet, what you retweet, it all matters — and these people need to only speak truth.

My hat is off to the minority of House Republicans that voted to impeach for a second time. You broke with the consensus of your party to do what is right, in the name of truth. My hope is that you are the new leadership in your party and you guide your parties values and morals toward the likes of John McCain, John Glenn or Mitt Romney.

Remember when John Glenn was a US senator? This is what the Republican party should go back to. John Glenn was a bad-ass navy pilot and a war hero, who then became an astronaut, who then became a US Senator.

Not only was John Glenn a public service legend, he was also a good wholesome person. Had respect toward the flag and toward our democracy. The manner is which he operated himself throughout his life is exemplary and should serve as an example to future republicans.

Remember this guy? John McCain, also a war hero. Went to Naval Academy, then flew in Vietnam. Got shot down, captured, spent time as a POW. Later on in life he became a US House Representative from Arizona and then a Senator. In this picture, here he is, still working for America after having brain surgery for cancer.

John McCain was a good dude and a patriot. He devoted his life to America. A lifetime of public service. Donald Trump famously said that he wasn’t a war hero because he was captured. However, John McCain was working for something bigger than himself. He was working for America and so he quickly moved on.

Jake Angeli. He famously stormed the Capitol on January 6th. Not surprisingly, he is also a Trump supporter and QAnon conspiracy supporter. His ridiculous appearance is attributed to the fact he considers himself a Shaman.

The Republican party has a day of reckoning in front of them. Are they to return to the Republican roots of John Glenn and John McCain — or are they to cave to their extremist followers? The Republican party needs to disavow and get rid of all elements of their party that promote these non-truths, that promote hate and division, that stop at nothing in pursuit of their own personal power.

My sincere hope is that America can return to its roots of democracy. No matter what you believe, just be a good person and tell the truth. Don’t disparage people, and don’t elevate voices and idea’s that are dangerous. Be willing and able to convey your idea’s and be able to work with anyone else who is willing to do the same, regardless of race, party, citizenship, or otherwise. Do what is right for America, not your pocketbook.
